FAQ

Questions we hear the most

Do I need to choose a major when I apply?

No. Most students are admitted to the School of Science and explore for a year before declaring a major. Our academic advisors and the Science One curriculum help you find the right fit — you can also switch tracks within the School with minimal friction.

What scores do I realistically need?

Admission is holistic, but as a reference: recent JUPAS intakes averaged Best-5 around 24–30 depending on the program, IB offers typically fall in the 34–40 range, and A-Level offers around AAB–A*AA. Interview performance and science passion genuinely move the needle.*

Is the early round worth it?

Yes — early round applicants are reviewed first, get interview slots earlier, and every early applicant is automatically screened for entrance scholarships. Applying early never disadvantages your main-round chances.

Can I do research as an undergraduate?

From Year 1. The UROP program places undergraduates in faculty labs with credit and stipend options; many of our students co-author papers before they graduate.

What about accommodation?

All non-local Year 1 students are guaranteed on-campus housing, and most local students who apply receive a hall place. Halls sit right on the coastline — sea view included.
